After a long hot summer, the transmission fluid suffers most from high temperatures in stop and go traffic missing the cooling effect of moving air under the car.
There are no gauges to indicate how high the transmission fluid heats up; therefore regular transmission service is important!
A quick look at the transmission dip stick will indicate overheated fluid if it has
turned to a dark brown or even black color.
A lot of dirt gets trapped by the filters, but degraded fluid (overheated) is a poor lubricant for your car's transmission.
